Aberdeens was established in 1973 as a buy/sell/second-hand shop trading in various household items including furniture. Later a transition was made, and the owners decided to rather focus on furniture and more specifically furniture manufactured from kiln dried SA pine.
After establishing itself in Port Elizabeth, the owners decided to invest into new manufacturing facilities which improved the product quality as well as production speeds at which furniture could be delivered.
Aberdeens is proud of the fact that all timber is locally sourced from sawmills and suppliers in the eastern and southern cape region and that many skilled and unskilled labour residing in the eastern and southern cape is employed in the showrooms and factories.
Aberdeens offers the largest selection of quality pine furniture in the Eastern Cape manufactured mostly from pure kiln dried SA pine. Although South African Pine is regarded as a “soft timber”, it has great workability, high weight threshold and is one of the more affordable type of solid wood that can be used in furniture manufacturing.
As with all our furniture, our White/ Beach range is also manufactured from pure SA Pine and in some cases the natural resins in the knots will react with the white varnish and causes a blemish in the finish. This is unavoidable and natural. In time the product can be repainted with Plascon Velvaglo polyurethane enamel, or any similar paint.
In some cases, especially in our white furniture range, a combination of Clear SA Pine and a high-quality type of MDF (medium density fibreboard) such as Supawood is used to avoid any possible blemishes showing up in the finished product. MDF is considered a much more stable product and allows for a perfect smooth white finish without any lines or blemishes.
Aberdeens prides itself in always ensuring that sufficient stock is available in store but in extreme bulk order cases Aberdeens can rapidly place orders at its factories to ensure bulk manufacturing of any specific furniture piece or mattress in our range can be done within a timely manner.
Because of our bulk manufacturing capability, it has been possible for Aberdeens to create and maintain many long-term relationships with Boarding Schools, Guesthouses, Hotels, Universities and Student accommodation establishments in the Eastern and Southern Cape region.
